Visiting Makassar

On our very last week in Sulawesi we’re going to explore makasar and toraja. Flight from Manado takes about 3 hours, with scenic Sulawesi archipelago aerial view three hours is nothing. First destination of course makasar landmark, Losari beach. First impression, disappointing, it’s stinks and brown with plastic flying around. They surely do some numbers renovating, created park, play ground and Instagrameble spot for visitors to capture their moments here.

As soon as the sun starts to set, crowds start filling the area. Jogging, cycling, preparing food, and waiting for sunset. Night comes and beach turns to food market, most of them are makasar signature dish, pisang epe, sweet corn and saraba. Need something more full filling for dinner, just across the street there are line up restaurant with various menu. Unfortunately this in not place to find makasar otentik cuisines. To find makasar otentik delicacy like palu basa, mie titi, coto makasar or jalang kotek you need to explore the city.

Another city landmark is Somba opu fort. This fort is witness dutch biggest war to conquer makasar, gate to spice paradise. Read Somba opu history here. At her golden era, only royal family and the soldiers can enter this fort, now it’s open for public. Complete with museums, makes it perfect destination for history lovers.

Let’s call it a night and we need to prepare for bus night trip to Toraja. See you tomorrow at Toraja.
